When describing dense scientific research, the author oversimplifies for readability by people not in the neuroscience field. Each such oversimplification might well begin with a phrase like “to oversimplify,” or “to overstate the conclusions,” or “one may speculate.” Such warnings, if inserted into the text, would decrease readability, and readers are encouraged to provide such qualifiers silently when considering topics discussed.
